On 8 May 2025, India first used its S-400 Triumph Defense System in an active war. In response to drone and cruise missile attacks on the Punjab and Rajasthan border by Pakistan, the Indian Air Force successfully destroyed many dangerous goals by deploying the S-400 system. It is considered a major technical turn in India’s military history.
What is S-400 defense system?
The S-400 ‘Triumf’ is a modern air defense system developed by Russia that uses a series of surface-to-air missiles. With its help, enemy aircraft, drones, cruises and ballistic missiles can be track and destroyed at a distance of up to 400 km.
How does this work? (How S-400 Works)
- Radar system: 91n6e Big Bird radar tracks the target up to 600 km.
- command center: Identifying the goals and decides which missile should be attacked.
- Launcher Vehicle: 4 missiles are deployed on a truck, fire as soon as the order is received.
- Missiles: 40n6e, 48n6, 9m96e2, and 9m96e missiles are used for different range.
8 May 2025 incident: first war use of S-400
Pakistan tried a surgical drone strike in the border areas, replying by the S-400, dropping more than 17 air goals at a distance of 100–300 km.
